Off road mobility scooters are built for ground that defeats a standard pavement scooter: grass, gravel, woodland tracks and steep inclines. Our all terrain mobility scooters combine larger wheels, full suspension and higher ground clearance with ranges of up to 35 miles, so a day out does not have to end at the car park.
Want to tackle those bumpy paths with confidence? Our off-road models feature robust designs, large wheels and chunky pneumatic tyres that make light work of even the toughest tracks.
Model recommendation: If this sounds like you, then the Breeze X, our all-terrain mobility scooter, could be a great fit.
How Do Off-Road Mobility Scooters Differ from Regular Scooters?
All our mobility scooters are durable and well-made. However, unlike traditional models, these off-road scooters are specifically built to handle rough terrain, making them highly versatile.
As a class 3 road-legal vehicle, your off-road mobility scooter can conquer curbs, slopes, grassland, rough paths, fields and bumpy tracks. How’s that for autonomy?
So if you’ve been thinking about that holiday in the Lake District, a walking-with-wheels trip to the Forest of Dean, or an excursion to explore the Scottish Highlands – an all-terrain mobility scooter puts so much more adventure within your reach.
Outstanding Design and Features

What Makes a Scooter Off-Road Capable?
Terrain Capabilities
Ready to tackle all kinds of terrain? Choose a mobility scooter with chunky pneumatic tyres, excellent clearance and robust suspension. These features let you smoothly handle everything from bumpy pavements to grassy parks, giving you the freedom to go wherever life takes you.
From picturesque sandy beaches to scenic forest trails, versatility is key to the types of terrain our off-road models can handle.
And did we mention they’re completely comfortable at all times, too – even on the most bumpy pathways? Yes, of course we did. It’s almost like we’ve thought of everything.
Battery Life And Range
Want to spend all day exploring? Look for a powerful battery that means you can confidently take longer trips into town or on countryside jaunts without worrying about running out of charge midway through your day out. Our off-road mobility scooters have a peace of mind range of 24 to 25 miles on a standard battery and 34 to 35 miles with the long-range option.
Comfort And Safety Features
Comfort is key when you’re out and about all day. Your perfect scooter should give you an adjustable seat, supportive armrests, and shock-absorbing suspension. Add in essential safety features like anti-tip wheels, and you’ll feel secure whether you’re popping into the shops or meeting friends for coffee.
It doesn’t matter if your scooter can go off-road if it’s uncomfortable to sit on while doing so.
That’s why our engineers have put a lot of thought into making your all-terrain ride experience smooth, safe and stable – with strong frames, easy-to-use controls, high ground clearance and sturdy tyres fitted as standard to all our models.
Speed And Performance
Need to keep up with a busy lifestyle? Look for a scooter that matches what you do on a daily basis. Our powerful off-road motors mean you’ll glide over any terrain, whether you’re window shopping on the high street or heading to the local park.
Power is always a prerequisite when you’re travelling for longer distances over rough terrain between charges.
Our powerful lithium-ion battery packs are not only up to the job but can also be removed from your scooter to charge at a convenient plug socket. This is ideal if you live in a flat or leave your machine in the garage. TGA’s off-road scooters can travel at 8mph, they’re Class 3 and road legal with DVLA registration.
Weight Capacity and Stability
When it comes to weight capacity, you need to be confident that your chosen mobility scooter can provide a stable, safe ride on every journey.
Our off-road models have strong, wide frames so you’re always kept steady on uneven ground.
These sturdy machines will not only carry you in comfort but also easily handle all your shopping bags, so you’ll need to hold back on those special offers at Tesco. They have a 31.5 stone carrying capacity across the range.
Looking After Your Scooter
To keep your all-terrain mobility scooter running smoothly, it’s a good idea to regularly remove dirt and debris. You’ll also need to fully charge the battery between journeys to extend its lifespan.
Check the tyres for wear once a week and ensure they’re pumped up to the right pressure. Once a month, put a drop of oil on moving parts like joints and hinges.
Common Repairs
It’s obvious that you’ll need to fix flat tyres immediately to keep your scooter stable, and batteries should be replaced when performance starts to drop, typically after 18–24 months.
For maintenance and servicing, our team can take your scooter in and have a look at it for you. These sorts of adjustments maintain your scooter’s safety and control during off-road use.
Where you can use an off-road scooter
Public Spaces and Pavements
You can’t drive an off-road mobility scooter on a public road unless it’s classified as class 3 – like all the scooters on this page. These requirements include having a top speed of 4mph on pavements and up to 8mph on roads.
Restricted Areas
Certain natural reserves and parks restrict the use of motorised vehicles to protect wildlife and fragile ecosystems. Check with local authorities or park officials before planning a visit.
Private Property and Events
If you’re going to use your mobility scooter on private property, then you’ll need the owner’s permission. Events or festivals may have their own rules, so it’s a good idea to check the event website or contact organisers directly for their policies.
UK National Parks
In the UK, national parks like the Peak District and Lake District have guidelines for off-road mobility scooter use. Some trails are accessible, while others require advanced permission, so again, check their websites or give them a call before you visit.
Off-Road Mobility Scooter FAQs
Which mobility scooter is best for rough terrain?
It depends on the ground. For soft or uneven surfaces like grass, woodland paths and gravel, look for the largest wheels and the highest ground clearance you can get. The Breeze S4 offers 6 inches of ground clearance and carries up to 31.5 stone, which makes it the most capable in our range on genuinely rough ground. The Supersport is lighter at 119kg with 5 inches of clearance, and suits firmer tracks and longer distances.
Which scooter is best for offroad?
For regular off-road use, prioritise ground clearance, suspension and battery range over compactness. Every scooter in our off-road range is Class 3, reaching 8mph, with ranges from 24 miles on a standard battery to 35 miles with the long-range option. If most of your journeys involve fields, estates or country parks, the Breeze S4 is the most robust. If you are covering distance on tracks and lanes, the Supersport goes furthest for its weight.
Is there an off-road mobility scooter?
Yes. Off road mobility scooters are a distinct category, built with larger pneumatic tyres, full suspension, more powerful motors and greater ground clearance than pavement models. We manufacture six, from the Supersport at £3,695 to the Breeze X at £5,595, all with VAT relief for eligible buyers.
Are off-road scooters illegal?
No. Where you can use one depends on its class rather than its capability. Class 3 scooters, which includes our entire off-road range, travel at up to 8mph and must be registered with the DVLA to be used on the road. On pavements they are limited to 4mph. On private land you need the landowner’s permission, and many country parks and National Trust sites welcome mobility scooters, though it is worth checking access in advance.
