“Vita X on the bank” Mark’s blog

It’s been a rough year for me physically but when my body allows, I still try and get on the bank.

I’m lucky that my friend has a van that my Vita X fits in which makes my trips that little bit easier. Often the toilets or car parks are a fair distance from the lakes so having “Muddy” my mobility scooter makes life easier.

David loads and unloads all my gear. If I catch he nets, weighs and handles the fish for me. I only pick them up for a picture. Even so, after a day of fishing it takes me days to recover but that day out means so much to me and if I catch well – that’s just a big bonus.

The banter, the freedom, fresh air and wildlife always brightens my world. The Vita X with its chunky off road tyres handles the wet grass and rough fields with ease and the comfortable seat and suspension never puts and strain on me.

This trip we are at Park Farm Fishery near Dunstable. It’s not what I would call accessible as there is a big step into the toilets and the lakes are in fields but during dry weather you can park next to the lakes and some areas are reasonably flat. The owners are very friendly and their little dog always comes around for a visit.

Fishing for me is more than just the fish, it’s a break from the mundane which is every day life. If you ever get the chance, give it a go. There are many friendly, accessible venues out there and doctors are now prescribing fishing as a wellness exercise.
