“Celebrating 2 years with my Whill” Georgina’s blog

I’ll never forget the day I got my Whill – it changed everything. This month marks 2 years since the chair became mine and I started my journey as a Whill user. To some, a wheelchair may not seem all that much, nevermind a symbol of freedom but in reality, a wheelchair that suits you can impact every aspect of living for the better and this chair certainly suits me. When TGA came out to deliver a home demonstration of the Whill C, it was love at first sight and it boosted my confidence almost immediately. How could you not fall in love with such a stylish piece of modern age kit?!

I cannot believe how quickly those 2 years have gone; it only feels like yesterday that I got my Whill but at the same time I can’t imagine a time where I didn’t have it. To be in control of your own mobility is something that’s taken for granted until you have to rely on someone else to get around. Taking that power back is a feeling like no other. From travelling around the UK, going abroad, fashion shows, photoshoots, days out, family holidays and everything in between, my chair has made a huge difference in it all. From the big things to the small everyday things that you wouldn’t necessarily think about. It’s made a difference in my life and those around me.

I can’t get over how incredible it’s been getting to experience life from my Whill and how much better it is for my family too. I could never have imagined just how much one decision could change my life. It once seemed a scary thought that I would need a powerchair, but it was worry that I had no need for. Turns out, it’s not so scary after all! What’s scary is the thought that if I turned down the idea of a powerchair – I would not be out here experiencing life the way I am. It feels like there’s nothing I cannot do. What an incredible piece of technology with no end of hidden tricks and capabilities. It may be small but it sure is mighty.

When you see a wheelchair, don’t see it as a limitation – see it as a liberation! It’s never an easy decision getting a wheelchair but it’s the best one I ever made and I’m proud to be an ambulatory wheelchair user. Thank you to those designing wheelchairs that move with the times! I have my independence and freedom, it’s got me to places that would have been impossible before and that means everything to me so this powerchair anniversary is special and something to celebrate. Don’t be afraid to make those tricky choices in life, they may just lead to the best decisions you’ll make and giving yourself the opportunity to use a mobility aid that suits you is one that’ll benefit your life. Take it from me, I never thought I’d be a wheelchair user so young but I’m so proud to be one. I’m forever grateful to TGA for helping me life my live to the fullest from the comfort and safety of my trusty Whill C.
