TGA will be offering the opportunity to learn how to drive a mobility scooter safely at the opening of the East Anglian DriveAbility (EAD) centre in Thetford on 11th July.
Supported by the Department for Transport, EAD offer support and driving assessments to people who need to gain, or retain, the ability to drive following a diagnosis involving impairment or disability.
To celebrate the opening, the EAD will welcome healthcare professionals and members of the public to come and discover specialist guidance regarding adapted driving and mobility scooters.
Anyone with a need for adapted driving or assisted mobility will experience a rewarding and positive visit. There will also be a range of TGA mobility scooters available for test drives including the automatic-folding Minimo Autofold and larger 8mph models such as the Breeze S4.
A highlight of the day will be the availability of TGA test drive course. It will provide a safe and enjoyable opportunity to test drive a mobility scooter for the first time or improve driving skills on a specially designed course. Specialist advisors will be on hand to guide visitors around simulated obstacles such as kerbs, road crossings and parked cars. Advice regarding the Highway Code and manoeuvres such as reversing will also be demonstrated along with opportunity to test scooter suspension, steering, braking and controls. By physically test-driving products, visitors will be able assess suitability for their individual lifestyles and mobility needs.
“The official opening of our new extension promises to deliver a successful day for all,” Yvette Bateman, CEO, East Anglian DriveAbility, comments. “We are proud of our new facilities and the enhancement to services on offer for all elderly and disabled drivers within East Anglia.
“Our Chair and well-known accessible transport campaigner, Helen Dolphin MBE, will be available throughout the day to explain the latest developments in legislation and topics such as disabled parking and Blue Badges. The presence of the TGA mobility scooter test drive course will highlight the diversity of advice we can offer regarding independent mobility and we thank this scooter supplier for their continued support. The team and I look forward to a busy day and invite everyone with an interest in independent mobility to attend."
"TGA continues to be a strong supporter of EAD as we work closely together to provide the most appropriate mobility scooters to those in need,” Daniel Stone, TGA Managing Director, adds. “Our comprehensive assessment process works in unison with EAD's approach so service users are always recommended the right product to maximise their personal independence. Equally the need for safety on the road is essential – hence our loan of the TGA test drive track at the open day. EAD provides a vital resource locally and we endorse the quality of their services."
