TGA successfully hosts mobility scooter safe driving day with Motability and Suffolk Police

17th July, 2012

We are pleased to say that our mobility scooter safe driving day on Thursday 12 July was a complete success. Working in association with Motability, Suffolk Police, Age UK Suffolk, Optua, Gateopener, Portaramp and East Anglian Driveability the event was attended by numerous members of the public, together with BBC Radio and the Mayor of Sudbury, Jack Owen.

This event offered the chance for all current owners to learn valuable safe driving tips and a chance for individuals thinking of buying a mobility scooter to try one for the first time in a friendly, fun atmosphere. TGA organised a coned test track with various obstacles such as parked cars, ramps and imitation street furniture to simulate an everyday journey on a mobility scooter, so visitors could gain from the specialist advice on hand. Mobility scooter drivers who successfully completed the course whilst following guidance regarding the current Highway Code, reversing and how to navigate roads safely, were awarded with proficiency certificates from TGA. The BBC Radio Suffolk reporter 'Deals on Wheels', who completed a live transmission during the event, tackling the course on a Breeze S4 and then subsequently interviewed Tim Ross, TGA National Sales Manager and the Mayor of Sudbury. Both explained how vitally important the TGA open day was in terms of safety education for all scooter users, whilst Tim explained how TGA is leading the way in personalised scooter assessments that ensure products perfectly match individual's capabilities and lifestyle. Tim reiterated TGA's pro-active approach to helping and caring for its customers, which as he explained, is unfortunately not widespread within the industry as certain suppliers are only interested in maximizing profits. The safe driving day was indicative of the business's approach to continually giving something back to the local community and plans further free educational events in the future.

TGA has a trusted 25-year heritage for supplying quality and reliable scooters nationwide and Daniel Stone, Managing Director, regards the safety of drivers as absolutely paramount. He explains: 'TGA is a caring, ethical mobility scooter specialist who is currently pioneering the industry in safe driving education. Mobility scooters are commonly in the press and users can be portrayed in a negative light, which is not a fair reflection of our customer base. TGA scooter owners are given comprehensive guidance, training and advice before and after purchase so they can enjoy their newfound freedom, safely and with a clear understanding of correct highway laws. Our safety day welcomed members of the public from all over the region who thoroughly enjoyed the educational experience of driving around our test track and it was great to see the Mayor of Sudbury in attendance along with BBC Radio Suffolk."

Professional Mobility Advisors, the Police and Occupational Therapists were on hand to offer free safe driving advice and TGA provided a comprehensive range of scooters for visitors to try so they could discover which type really suited their individual needs. The collection of scooters showcased at the event also included a PR showpiece Breeze S4 that had just recently returned from setting a new 24 hour World Record with Steve Tarrant at The Mobility Roadshow in Peterborough. Still coated in thick mud from being driven around the Peterborough Speedway track in appalling weather condition for 24 hours, this Breeze clearly demonstrated the robustness of its design as 100 reliability was delivered over 173 miles in extreme conditions. This model also won the BBC Top Gear extreme mobility scooter challenge back in February, which is one of the many reasons why it remains first choice across the UK and is enhanced by TGA's commitment to safe driving education.
