TGA, a UK leading specialist in mobility scooters and products, has donated a specialist powered adjustable chair worth £1,700 to help cancer patients attending the West Suffolk Hospital Macmillan Unit.
TGA supplies quality mobility scooters across the UK and has an independent living showroom based in Sudbury, Suffolk. This showroom provides a comprehensive range of reliable mobility products ranging from scooters, bath lifts and rise and recliner chairs to smaller gadgets for independent living. In addition, its experienced team has been trained to assess patients for more high specification products such as specialist adjustable chairs and power wheelchairs – a service that is rare in East Anglia.
Away from the showroom and on a national level, TGA’s showcased its scooters at a trade exhibition and was lucky enough to win a specialist adjustable chair. This Kirton Florien is a manually operated chair that provides a multitude of reclined and upright-seated positions and includes specialist lateral supports and advanced pressure management. As one of its employees has been treated at the Macmillan Unit in Bury St. Edmunds, TGA felt these features would be ideal for patients at the West Suffolk Hospital and hence decided to donate their prize.
Fran Davidson, Ward Manager at the West Suffolk Hospital Macmillan Unit, was contacted by TGA to see if this mobile chair would be suitable and offer appropriate support to patients. Acceptance of the donation was approved and TGA handed over the specialist adjustable chair which has already provided enhanced care for patients. Fran explains: “It was incredibly kind and thoughtful of TGA to donate this adjustable chair. It went straight into use within 20 minutes of being presented to us and really helps the 300-400 patients we see every week across the clinic. As it reclines patients in a supportive manner, procedures that involve connecting IV lines for Chemotherapy or ‘flushing out’ can be performed in a more comfortable way. I have been ward manager for six years and we offer first class care however this is the first time we have been able to offer patients such an advanced treatment chair.”
Daniel Stone, TGA Managing Director added: “The team at the West Suffolk Hospital Macmillan Unit do an amazing job. We are delighted that our donation is already helping to enhance their superb levels of care and would encourage all locals to keep fundraising for the unit so people with cancer can get the best possible support. As with all TGA products, this adjustable chair will deliver reliability, comfortable and durability.”
