TGA, the UK leading mobility scooter specialist, has supplied a new Breeze S4 mobility scooter to Strathclyde Country Park so that visitors with restricted mobility can access this popular Scottish beauty spot.
Local resident Annie Purcell suggested to the council that a mobility scooter should be available at the park. She lives with mobility difficulties and felt that with a comfortable scooter available to hire, herself and other people with walking difficulties could discover newfound freedom in the Park. The model selected by Strathclyde Country Council was the 8mph Breeze model from TGA - famous nationwide for its high profile appearance on BBC Top Gear. Its renowned off-road capabilities were highlighted during the show when it was the first to reach the top of a rugged mountain in the Brecon Beacons. This robust, reliable and comfortable mobility scooter is now for hire at the Strathclyde Country Park and compliments the existing range of all-ability bikes. It has been finished in striking bright yellow for high visibility, has a range of up to 30 miles on one charge and can be used on the four-mile path around the scenic Strathclyde Loch.
As Annie had submitted the original suggestion to the council she was given the honours of being the first driver when it was recently launched. Councillor Michael McPake, Convener of the Environmental Services Committee attended the unveiling and said: "Strathclyde Country Park is a fantastic place for a family day out and we want everyone, regardless of ability, to enjoy the facilities. I would like to thank Annie for suggesting the mobility scooter as a way of enabling more people to enjoy the park. Our accessibility statement gives details of the gradient of the paths, features to see, how long they take to walk and where to park. Our range of bicycles to hire gives another option for exploring the park, and the new electric TGA scooter is an excellent addition to the facilities on offer."
Annie was delighted to drive the TGA Breeze S4 for the first time and added: "I was keen to see Strathclyde Country Park offering an electric trail scooter to hire as I had the experience of using one a recent holiday. I was able to gain access to the hills and forests as, being disabled, it was the only way I could see them."
The TGA mobility scooter is available to hire from the Watersports Centre along with bikes for children and adults, including 40 new mountain bikes, and a range of all-ability bikes for anyone who is unable to ride a bike safely on their own and requires some assistance. This scheme is part of a pilot project with Visit Scotland, which aims to help people with mobility issues to plan days out at tourist attractions in Scotland.
Daniel Stone, TGA Managing Director concludes: "We are delighted to have supplied one of our award-winning TGA Breeze S4 mobility scooters to Strathclyde Country Park. This flagship scooter is highly popular across Scotland as it provides performance that is second-to-none in the highlands and other rural locations. Elderly and disabled visitors to the Park will now be able to experience all the delights of this stunning location with independence and in total comfort."
