TGA, the UK's favourite mobility product specialist, will be demonstrating its new Swiss-designed 'StrongBack' wheelchair alongside its complete award-winning mobility scooter range at The Mobility Roadshow (Silverstone Circuit, Northants, 26-28th May, stand H2-54).
Developed in Switzerland, the foldable and lightweight StrongBack from TGA includes a highly supportive backrest based on an award-winning seating design. Its unique shape moulds around the user to provide greater comfort through effective lumbar support. This design is simple and requires little or no adjustment to perfectly fit the majority of people looking for an attendant controlled wheelchair. The StrongBack is the ideal wheelchair for users who struggle to achieve correct posture and have back pain or pressure problems.
Eric Cooper, TGA Wheelchair Powerpack Specialist said: "Traditional wheelchairs can be uncomfortable to sit in, even for short periods of time. This discomfort can be caused by several problems resulting from poor posture. With a lack of appropriate lumbar support, poorly designed wheelchairs can cause chronic pain or long term health problems such as curvature of the spine. Whereas the new StrongBack's ergonomic curved backrest supports the natural lumbar curve of the spine for comfortable, upright and healthy sitting. The StrongBack also provides an improved seat angle that aligns the pelvis for proper posture and prevents slipping and slouching forward. We look forward to demonstrating this pioneering design to all visitors at The Mobility Roadshow who are looking for a wheelchair that delivers the highest levels of comfort in the simplest way possible."
The new StrongBack has easy-glide solid tyres and works with any of TGA Wheelchair Powerpacks. A Wheelchair Powerpack consists of a motor unit, drive wheel and battery pack that attaches to the underside of the wheelchair and is operated by a carer. It helps drive the wheelchair forward so the strain associated with pushing, especially up slopes or on uneven surfaces, is greatly reduced.
When the new StrongBack is not in use it can be folded really easily and lifting is no problem with an overall weight of only 11.3kg. The leg rests can be quickly folded backwards so slotting into a car boot is hassle-free. It comes in two different widths and offers excellent comfort and support for people weighing up to 115kg (18 stones). A self-propelling version will be available later this year.
