To celebrate 'National Older People's Day' on 1st October, Ken Livingstone rode a new TGA Vita 4 in the 1st Harrow Scooter Challenge, which was organised by Mobility World and supported by TGA Electric Leisure Ltd, Age Concern, Sainsbury's, British Transport Police and Harrow County Council.
To coincide with UN International Day of Older Persons, this fun event consisted of a five-mile, timed round trip for many mobility scooter riders from outside Mobility World's showroom to Sainsbury's in South Harrow and back again. Despite poor weather, the riders including Ken were dispatched in groups of five towards Sainsbury's via the town centre where several displays were held promoting the benefits of safe mobility scooter ownership. Asad Omar, Mayor of Harrow attended the start of the challenge along with a crowd of participants, supporters, police, press and organisers. In addition to Ken's participation in the actual rally on an eye-catching orange Vita 4, several other riders tackled the time trial on TGA mobility scooters. These included TGA Supersports and Breezes which all coped with the rain admirably. Poolin Shah, Managing Director of Mobility World rode a TGA Breeze 4 alongside Ken and escorted him into the town centre whereby he was presented with the 'Ken 1' number plate that had been mounted on
Poolin Shah commented, "Bearing in mind the poor weather, today's event has been a huge success. I spoke at length to Ken about his experiences this morning on a TGA Vita 4 scooter and he said that it was 'thoroughly good fun and enjoyable.' This was exactly the reaction we were looking for from all people involved with the event as the challenge was organised to change peoples' perception of mobility scooters. They can be fun and enjoyable whilst offering remarkable new levels of freedom that help people retain independence. I feel today has gone a long way in communicating this to local people and we plan to organise further mobility scooter rallies in the future to reinforce this message. I would like to thank everyone who has made today possible especially Ken for his genuine enthusiasm and Martyn Simpson and Jon Nock representing TGA Electric who attended the event and were very proactive throughout the
National Sales Manager, Tim Ross from TGA who supplies Mobility World with the Vita 4 scooter used by Ken concluded, 'Mobility World is a valued, specialist provider of our quality products and we congratulate Poolin and his team on delivering this successful event. Communicating the countless positive benefits of owning a quality, reliable mobility scooter such as one from TGA, is always imperative as unfortunately unreliable mobility products and negative press tarnish the industry as a whole. TGA has a 25-year heritage for delivering peace of mind through outstanding products and customer care whilst continually encouraging people to retain their independence. This event reiterates this important message and we wish Poolin good luck with his scooter challenges in the future.'
