For many years, Linda and her husband David have been regular visitors to the RSPB Minsmere nature reserve on the east coast of Suffolk. This AONB is home to a huge variety of wildlife including otters, adders, lizards and wetland-feeding birds such as Avocets. The Lockes are keen bird watchers however Linda lives with Osteoarthritis which means walking is becoming increasingly difficult and painful. Despite RSPB Minsmere being accessible and disability-friendly, Linda is becoming unable to walk the large distances from car park to bird hide. This has all changed recently by winning a new compact Eclipse mobility scooter from Suffolk’s TGA Mobility.
TGA is an award-winning mobility product specialist that supplies quality mobility scooters nationwide. It also has a welcoming and friendly independent living showroom in Sudbury that helps elderly and disabled locals retain their freedom through the supply of reliable and trusted products. These solutions include market-leading TGA scooters, adjustable chairs, stair lifts, bath lifts and the latest simple gadgets for easier day-to-day living. TGA is always focused on giving something back to the local community hence ran a competition to with an Eclipse – a popular scooter that cleverly dismantles into four easy-to-lift parts that easily fit in a car boot. This highly manoeuvrable design provides assured independence for users when travelling further afield either in the car, on public transport or in a coach or plane.
Linda said: “I was so surprised to win this TGA competition, I never expected to win anything. My Eclipse is going to make such a huge difference as walking is so painful for me. I have Osteoarthritis, especially in my knee and foot, it’s getting worse. My husband has already trialed packing the Eclipse in our car, which was no problem and I have been into town on my own. Before having to take early retirement due to ill health, I worked in local care homes and really enjoyed a varied role helping elderly people. Now I need a bit of help myself and my new Eclipse is perfect, it even fits in a cupboard at home without taking apart.
Linda adds: “It was lovely to be invited into the TGA showroom to be presented with my prize and David and I are so looking forward to going back to Minsmere without the struggle of walking. It is such a beautiful place and the RSPB have done such a great job making it scooter and wheelchair friendly.”
